the tent is dark in the cloak of night, lightly illuminated by the various candles placed about. robb fiddles with the stuck buckle of his armor inside his tent, sighing in his growing frustration at the persistence of his armor refusing to unlatch.

he’s got squires for this, he knows, but he’s been around men all day. taken lives of fathers, brothers, sons, he can take off his own damn armor.

he gives it one final tug before he gives up, sitting back and running his hands down his face, trying his best to rub the sleep from his eyes. he’s got wounded to check on, meetings to hold & ravens to answer. he can take off his armor later.

he leans forward, putting his elbows on the table & resting his head in his hands, just for a moment.

approaching footsteps interrupt his moment of reprieve, and greywind rouses from where he lays guard at the door. robb hopes it’s just the guards changing shifts, but he knows better. it’s someone coming to ask him for something. someone coming to tell him what he should be doing instead of what he has been. pigs are flying and he must fix it.

he closes his eyes, and he hears someone enter the tent. the guards are obligated to announce everyone’s arrival, are they not? who could they possibly let in without hesitation?

“what is it?”

his tone is harsher than he intends. he’s snappy, even when he doesn’t mean to be. when he gets no answer, he looks up, and it’s you. his expression softens in record time, guilt crawling up his spine. he puts his head in his hands again, sighing at his own stupidity. what kind of king speaks to his people like he just did? to his lady, nonetheless?

you walk over to him, wordless, and begin to unlatch the stuck buckle. it lets go in record time, and you move to the next. robb sits back to give you access to all of his armor, and you step into his space. you must be a gift from the gods, he thinks. some kind of… divine blessing that he could never be worthy of receiving.

some time passes like that. you, taking off his armor, and robb, sitting back ever so patiently, resisting the urge to pull you closer. the weight lifts off him as the layers get shed, and he can’t help the few groans that escape him. how long has he been wearing this? ten, twelve hours? his body relaxes as you work, and in tune, his mind. his hand reaches for any part of you he can hold while not interrupting your work. he almost thinks he’s bothering you until he feels you lean into him, whether you’re aware of it or not. it brings the first smile he’s worn on his face all day.

eventually you pull him up to send him to bathe.

“y’look like death.”

your comment has a playful expression adorn robb’s face as he pulls you closer, and he starts poking your ribs, the place where you’re most ticklish. you yelp in surprise, squirming in his grasp and trying to get away. he’s got a good hold of you, and your pleas for him to stop are drowned out by your own laughter.

even if you’re the victim, you secretly enjoy the playful moments like these. the ones where you get a glimpse of the robb you fell in love with at winterfell — where you both were just two stupid kids, head over heels for each other.

“robb- robb!”

he eventually decides on mercy, stopping his assault. you sway in his arms, catching your breath & letting smaller giggles escape you. he leans in, kissing your temple in a half-apology (he’s not sorry) as he leaves to wash the grime off himself.

he comes back to find you lighting a candle you just replaced. the glow of its light illuminates your features, and you’ve never looked so pretty. he approaches you, and he can’t help himself, sliding an arm around your waist & pulling you into him. however stuck you may be, you seem content with your situation. you aren’t sure how long you stand like that, soaking in each others presence, watching the candles flame dance. you’re both so enamored in this moment, you don’t hear greywind moving to stand up.

“Your grace.”

you both turn around to see the subject of the intrusion. a guard has his head poked through the tents entrance, greywind stopping him from stepping inside.

“A raven.” the guard holds up a sealed scroll, punctuating his words. robb squeezes your waist ever so lightly as he lets go, moving to collect the scroll and add it to his list of things he must do. he nods, silently dismissing the guard, and the guard bows, going back to his post.

he breaks the seal, and whatever’s written on the paper has robb’s mood growing sour as he reads it. he sets it down on the table, putting his hands on the old wood and exhaling through his nose, leaning his weight against it. his eyes are distant, overworked brain no doubt at a loss of what to do anymore. how much can one man take?

you hate seeing him like this. the crown on his head is heavy, and war has not been kind. you wish you could fix it all yourself, but you can’t. the best you can do is stand unwavering by his side, there to prop him up when he’s buckling. so you do.

you move to join him, gently moving one of his arms off of the table to give you room to wrap your arms around him. he’s immediate in his response, tucking his head in your shoulder & pulling your body flush against his. he sighs, a shaky exhale against your shoulder. he needed this. bad. and he didn’t even know it, not until he got it.

not until he feels the heat and weight of your body pressed against his own, your arms wrapped around the back of his neck. he can feel you trying to embed yourself into his memory, a reminder that even when you’re not here, he can come back to this moment. when he feels like he’s drowning in the vast sea of battle and politics — that he once felt like he was drowning here, inside this tent, too. and you were there to pull him back up. somehow, impossibly, he finds himself pulling you closer.

Finney is frequently bullied and harassed at school, but his friend and classmate Robin fends off the bullies.

Having inherited her mother's ability, Gwen dreams about the Grabber's abduction of Bruce, a boy Finney knew from Little League. Two police detectives, Wright and Miller, interview Gwen at school, believing that she may have knowledge about the Grabber. When Terrence learns about the questioning, he beats her with a belt. Soon afterward, the Grabber abducts first Robin and then Finney.

Finney awakens in a soundproofed basement with a disconnected black rotary dial telephone on one wall. It begins to ring on its own at times; Finney hears only static when he first answers it, but then hears Bruce's voice telling him about a floor tile he can remove in order to dig an escape tunnel. It is revealed that Finney is being held in Max's basement, and that the Grabber is his brother.

Finney receives a call from Griffin, a third victim, who gives him the combination to the lock securing the house's front door and tells him that the Grabber has fallen asleep. He sneaks out and unlocks the door, but the Grabber quickly recaptures Finney after his dog Samson barks to wake him. A fourth victim, a juvenile delinquent named Vance, calls to tell Finney that he can break through a wall and into a freezer in the adjacent room. Finney does so, but finds the freezer door locked. As Finney despairs over his fate, he receives one last call from Robin, who urges him to stand up for himself and fight back by packing the phone receiver with dirt to use as a bludgeon.

Hi hello I watched all of carmilla in a weekend when I was 17 because a student teacher who in retrospect I had a bit of a crush on mentioned that she knew one of the actresses. also I am pretty invested in all your recent vampire stuff because I watched iwtv in 2 days last week because your edit intrigued me

i also watched carmilla at 17! or like, 17-19. i found it when s2 had just started and followed it to the end. did something permanent to my brain but i think it was a good thing. on rewatch now im like, i was right to like this. like it's a solid show, it's good. it has its flaws obviously but it's well written, the emotional moments still get me, i can see why i liked it and i still like it now even when it's not anymore, you know, meeting every need that baby gay me didnt even know they had

what it doesnt reaallyy do though - i dont remember if i posted abt this or if i left it in my drafts but - is explore vampirism as a concept. their subject matter is more lesbianism than vampirism. which is great! thats what they wanted to do and they did it and it's very good. but reading interview with the vampire the book rn im realising how much potential vampires have to be metaphors for like so many things and i started wondering like 'wait, did carmilla just not really engage with it or did it all go over my head'. but it just didnt really engage with it all that much. which again is fine bc that wasnt what they were doing. im glad they were more about the lesbianism than the vampirism

but there's this interesting difference in framing, because in iwtv they keep calling armand 'ancient' right? and emphasising how old he is. and he's like 500? and i was like 'wait isnt carmilla like 400?'. she isnt, shes 340, but still, thats getting there, you know? and we know quite a lot about her history, but kind of just the Big Events. when she was turned, the events of the novella, coffin of blood, silas. thats sort of what we know. but none of the long lonely slog of history day to day you know? with armand i feel like we can really feel how much time everything takes. how every one of those years is made up of single days. with carmilla i dont feel that as much. i keep kind of thinking about daniel, when louis calls him a boy in the first episode, saying "im an old man, with all the triggers that come with it"

because carmilla might look 18 (or mid twenties at this point) but she has lived all that time. shes also seen her native land be claimed by like a succession of ruling powers, right? like armand. shes been buried alive, like louis. when lestat is born, shes already 80 years old, shes lived a whole human lifetime, and the entire adult part of it shes been a vampire. shes lived through 1680-1870 being a lure. i compared her to abigail hobbs in some tags on a post, i dont know if youre familiar with hannibal the tv show, but i do also kinda keep thinking about that comparison

if youre not familiar, in the first episode of hannibal the murderer of the week is this guy garrett jacob hobbs who kills and cannibalises girls who resemble his daughter. and later on it turns out she was made to be his lure. like they'd go places and he'd sent her to the victims to make friends and maybe get them back to their home or smth. not sure if they specified all the details. but that's what carmilla did for mother. and in s2 we hear from mattie that while every couple of decades carmilla had to lure victims for the fish god, she also seemed to just enjoy humans between those times, right? like the doctor, gets lonely, gets a new companion. but we've only sort of got mattie's mocking word for it ("dont eat him, hes a poet! or her, shes got such a wonderful voice. or that one, shes just too pretty to ruin"), we don't know exactly from carmilla's point of view what she was doing or why. if mattie's talking about stuff that happened after the blood coffin, 1950-now, then i think it's a fair assumption based on what carmilla says in the s1 sock puppet show that after she'd figured out what the real situation was and what her role in it was, when she'd started trying to save girls from being sacrificed, that she mightve been doing the same trying to save people from becoming mattie's victims. it's probably more likely that she was just trying to find excuses to stop mattie from sucking someone dry rather than actually having like an aesthetic based morality. but it might be a bit of both. im still trying to figure out what her philosophy actually is, like i dont know what existentialism actually means ghkfjghkj but i will

i also found it pretty striking in the movie when shes turning back into a vampire she says like "this was supposed to be done, you know? the blood lust, the self-loathing, the sleeping tied to a chair in my own bedroom". thats what defines her vampirism, wanting blood and hating yourself for it (the third part is a joke/reference to s1 but also i think meaningful for how she sees her relationship with laura when she IS a vampire. little bit of that 'she will reject me for my monstrousness' shining through). and thats what defines vampirism for lots of vampires across the genre obviously, but i dont know, it struck me. we dont get a lot from carmilla's pov, we know a fair amount about her, but the story is always told through laura. we get laura's diaries, but just snippets here and there from carmilla, what shes thinking, how shes feeling

and i love that shes a philosopher. i love that thats how she seems to try and find something to hold onto, in a world that kind of moves around her, having been murdered, kidnapped, turned and groomed to be a lure on the cusp of adulthood, never having been properly loved (the relationship with her father wasnt good she says in s3, and her mortal mother i dont think has ever been mentioned (like laura's)). the only good relationship she seems to have had for the better part of 3 centuries seems to have been mattie, and mattie seems to love being a vampire. i can imagine carmilla just sort of going along with anything mattie wants to do just because shes so desperate for that friendship. not like, against her will necessarily really. but more like, she hasnt even had the space to develop her own will, you know? and philosophy lets you do that. philosophy gives you frameworks to understand the world and to develop your own opinions on it. and by the 21st century she seems to have developed those opinions, she has a sense of her own values, but shes also still stuck in that same situation. shes jaded and cynical in the face of laura's optimism and strong moral code a lot of the time in s1 because she feels probably pretty powerless. like she does what she can to save some girls but at the end of the day shes scared of her mother and she has nowhere else to go really, right?

i like how she grapples with that over the course of the series, in tandem with laura grappling with her black and white morality. she sort of jumps ship from her mother to laura bc theyve fallen in love, but then laura still stuck in her hero thinking refuses to see her monstrous side. not literally bc i think the biological vampirism never seemed to be a problem for laura, but morally. the having murdered. carmilla needs laura to see that and love her while seeing it bc the last girl she loved rejected her for being a vampire.

but you see her kind of swing back and forth in s2. she softens first with laura but then they break up and she leans back hard into the sarcastic cynic defense mechanisms, leans hard into "im a monster, dont expect heroism from me". but thats like, it's sort of learned helplessness i think. it's powerlessness, resignation. bc morally shes not a monster. maybe she doesnt have as strong a drive to help other people as laura does and is a little more selfishly hedonistic in that she just wants to enjoy her/their life, but she doesnt hurt people for fun, she never has. she just sort of didnt have another option for a Really long time. so she pretends she doesnt care. "im a vampire, this is what i do, this is who i am". but clearly from the way she talks about it when she turns back into one, she doesnt enjoy it

and i like how she goes even further in s3, where she starts swinging even more to the heroic side, bc she sees hope. shes like "wow if we kill my mother, i'd be free". theres hope and she becomes like a lot more active. and shes like that at the start of the movie too, a lot happier, a lot more relaxed, and then vampirism is back and bam depression gfhgkjh like shes immediately more gloomy, ashamed of her past and her self, retreats into herself

I know that the show isnt gonna tie off all loose ends, and i dont think i want it to yet, but my dream for the near future is:

Alya and Zoe get to be the primary Ladybug and Cat,

They do patrols and are so cringe on main as they help keep the public morale up by hosting art night and photography contests and are publically superwholock fans.

And adrien and marinette know each others’ secret identities and act as zoe and alya’s hero mentors respecfully so theyre not alone, and also make random public appearances as lb and cn to a crowd that loves them.

But they spend most of their newfound free time going on silly little dates and hanging out with their friends and like having marinette doing fashion design more.

Meanwhile Gabe dies and the peacock ends up in lila’s hands

and she makes completely different styles of akumas that are all used for petty teenage drama low stakes things.

And kitty noir and scarabella fight them off and then keep inviting the recovered akuma victims to their cringe little tumblrina themed parties.

Scarabella is like “this is a tardis charm. It doesnt technically have any magic but if youre ever overwhelmed it will remind you to simply watch shows and project onto your blorbo. You should try fanfiction itll fix u.”

And lila as a supervillain keeps trying to start a smear campaign by calling kittybella and scarabella cringe because she’s 14 and thats the worst insult she knows,

but team kittybella just keeps appearing on the ladyblog to be like “hiiii paris. did you know that being cringe is cool and fun. Anyway these are our silly little ocs we made when we were 13 we will be sharing them and if you are 13 and have ocs you should send them in. And everyone in paris has to say nice things because creativity is so good.”

And scarabella defeats one akuma by literally saying “omg i like your shoelaces” and lila screams so much she loses control of the akuma who breaks free to say “thanks i got them from the president.”

Everyone keeps asking if kittybella is dating and its deeply unclear bc they keep looking like theyre about to kiss and then going “WAIT i just remembered i need to show u this meme. its so funny.”

there is a theory from id's fantasy (i believe) that since jeremy was one of glitchtrap's victims, he TOO had the vanny mask. somehow the vanny mask got stuck to his face (like how it gets stuck on you in ruin) and the scene that tape girl describes was jeremy cutting the VANNY MASK off. tape girl describes it as a halloween mask, and since we find the vanny mask in the dreadbear dlc, she isn't too far off

but like you said, idk how jeremy would just get off scot free and get re-hired by the pizzaplex??? fazbear was just about to fire him anyway soooo... did they end up doing that??? did he go into hiding??

I'm pretty sure he was working for Silver Parasol Games, not Fazbear Entertainment- Faz Ent just outsourced Help Wanted to SPG and gave them the circuit boards that got scanned into the game and created Glitchtrap. But regardless, he still caused a huge issue for everyone- the game was almost canned according to Tape Girl, with her assuming it was because of the lawsuits. Whether it be him or his family, after whatever happened to Jeremy happened, he sued SPG and possibly Fazbear Entertainment because of their direct involvement in Glitchtraps existence, and for a game meant to cover up the events of the past, he sure made quite the "event" out of whatever happened to him. He's just caused too much trouble for Faz Ent for me to believe they'd hire him- I'd sooner believe they'd hire a hitman on him or send killer animatronics to his house LMAO

Hello - this is a bit out of the blue but tumblr just served me the 🌹 snippet you shared for the marcheron curse au a few days ago thru the tag (which I follow) and it looks so delicious, I'd love to know more about it! As well as whether you have fic for them on ao3 👀 (can you tell that I'm a bit of a vacuum for the two of them heheh 😅)

hiiii!! sorry for the late answer (😅), but yes, i’d be more than happy to tell you about the fic!

so, of course, being a curse fic, this takes place in a sort of modern with magic au. it starts out with the bruins having just won a home game against the flyers (sorry, flyers fans, this fic is not exactly kind to you), and they’re all about to crash into the locker room to debrief and get to celebrating when patrice, one of the only players on the team who’s a magic-user, senses the presence of a curse hanging over the locker room. a bad one. there’s much panic that follows this, of course - assuming that the curse has been cast over the locker room itself, and knowing that curses cast over a location will just randomly attach itself to people who enter the space he gets the few players who went into the locker room ahead of him back over the threshold, blocks the entrance for the rest of the team, and after explaining the situation since most of the team is confused and concerned as to how he’s acting (brad most of all, naturally), gets someone to run and get one of the trained team mages so they can diffuse the curse.

only, they have a weird amount of trouble doing it. there are several tried-and-true methods that can diffuse any spell cast over a location, curse or not, as long as it hasn’t already attached to someone, but it takes a while for any of them to work when the team mages try them. eventually, though, the energy of the curse is gone from hanging over the locker room, so everyone figures one of the dissipation rituals must have worked and patrice can finally relax. and if he gets a weird, sickly feeling in his stomach as he’s saying goodnight to brad, a feeling that somehow seems like his inner magic trying to tell him something, well, he ignores it, because the curse is gone now, right?

but then, the next morning when he’s getting ready to leave for practice, brad doesn’t text him like he usually does. and when he gets to the garden, already a bit late because he’s been worrying about brad not texting him, he’s told that brad hasn’t shown up yet either, and suddenly, like his inner magic slapping him in the face, the odd feeling he got last night makes sense. the curse hadn’t been cast over the locker room - it had been cast on brad, but since the caster couldn’t get to him personally, they’d cast it in the locker room and let it wait to get hold of him. that’s why none of the team mages’ rituals worked, and the only reason they thought they’d worked was because the curse had latched onto its intended target.

and so patrice, now filled with horror at what a curse that had felt that bad against his own magic might be doing to his best friend, rushes straight back out of practice and to brad’s house, only to find him curled up on his bedroom floor, running a fever and seeming to be having horrifying hallucinations that have him crying and alternating between begging somebody to stop and telling them he’s sorry for something that patrice can’t figure out. panicking yet again, he calls linus, another of the team’s magic-users, and tells him what’s going on. after a break while linus confers with the team mages and patrice attempts to care for brad when he has a break of lucidity, only to start hallucinating again soon after, linus gets back to him… only to tell him that brad has been struck with one of the worst curses imaginable, one that leaves the victim hallucinating their worst fears until their body gives out from sheer terror - and one that has no known counter-curse or cure.

and so patrice is left in brad’s house, trying to keep him alive and as comfortable as possible given the circumstances while the team’s magic-using players and mages attempt to figure out a way to get rid of the curse. and all the while, patrice is left thinking about how the one guaranteed way to get rid of any curse, no matter how bad, is through true love’s kiss, something that’s so rare it’s barely even tried as a counter-spell.

he’s also left thinking about the fact that he’s been in love with brad for years, and wondering if it would be worth the heartbreak to try the cure if brad doesn’t love him back.

and to answer your question, no, i sadly don’t have any fic on ao3 for them yet (😔). i’m still relatively new to hockey, but i am working on quite a few wips right now, so hopefully this and other marcheron fics will be up on my ao3 soon!

yeah i. taylor has been my favourite character since the start and i have been determined to ANGST him HEIAEOUA9EJAS

when @llumimoon told me about taylor he instantly became my fave and i was like i need taylor angst and they told me he had the least angst so i was like THIS IS A JOB FOR ME and i think i'm living up to it HEOAOEIAIEOW

i find taylor interesting because i do think he is the most mentally sound of all the teens and i think his upbeat nature is completely real and natural and not a sort of "i'm masking my emotions 😍😍😍" kind of thing. like, i think taylor does fall victim to emotional repression but almost entirely unintentionally.

like taylor has a special interest in anime and all of this epic saving the universe stuff is totally up his alley because it's as if those plotlines have turned real and he's living through them. he's doing cool shit like slicing pizza people HEIAOEUA9EHQO4. and i think that to an extent what's happening around him hasn't really settled in as this is fucking real shit going down like i guess you could say he's got rose-coloured glasses on and the only stuff he's really acknowledging is the epic shit as opposed to the really fucked up shit.

this is also why i think so much about when nicky got sliced in half and taylor actually broke down for once and it kind of exposed the fact that everything that's happening is actually real. that's also why i wrote a fic about him having nightmares of exactly that here.

i think that everything hits taylor subconsciously first, because when he's awake and alert he's got those rose glasses on! in my writing i also really want to explore more of taylor experiencing ptsd symptoms and not knowing why.

like not just nightmares—in my tags above i mentioned hypervigilance. (i have ptsd myself but i always do research on the things that i write about as well.) taylor is a ranger and he's a survivalist and he's always got his weapons and his defense ane he's always prepared for anything ALREADY, so once shit gets even realer and it starts to sink in for him i think he would especially become victim to hypervigilance. i had started writing something about that as well.

i also think that it would be difficult for taylor to come to terms with how everything affects him mentally because of how absorbed he is in the anime protagonist dream he's living. i have some other writing ideas too and just the general thoughts of taylor starting to experience these side effects of trauma and not knowing why and also thinking it's strange because he's so absorbed in the fantasy and in the action anime he watches there isn't typically a heavy focus on the psychological affects of all the action and blood and death (this is not me saying all action anime is like that btw. im just saying that its not like action and battles have information about the psychological damage and trauma of it sprinkled in between all the time—it's mostly for dramatic effect or to move the plot) so he doesn't understand why those things are happening to him at all especially since he'd been totally fine hfujdjffuuf

i have been. thinking. about the fact that admin sonny was dead before kinito dragged him in. and because of how he died I have been imagining how that entire scene would've played out. how long had sonny been dead? what did nito see? what was his reaction? did they start out as friends in there or was it straight to hating each other? what was sonny's relationship with kinito like before he died?

they trust kinito so blindly and completelu,, they're sorta like how they were before they found out about all the bad shit. in like peak sonny hater era. they'd believe anything he says, even a blatant lie, and if they believed anything dangerous was going on they'd want to tell him right away.

owl is very easily manipulated and they are also so clingy. they are attached to kinito now. never letting go if they can help it. and they trust him!! to keep them safe!! they trust that they'll always feel comfortable and loved around him.

Sonny was absolutely terrified.

When the man awoke inside that computer everything hurt. Everything. He could barely see and his throat was raw with pain, could barely even talk at first.

Before the hate, there was fear.

The reason Sonny had did what he had done was out of pure, undiluted guilt for all that he had done. He was far from the first victim, and he was definitely not the last. He never liked Kinito while in there. He always saw that computer as a specially crafted digital nightmare just for him, a purgatory that properly punished him for what he allowed to occur.

Kinito didn't understand why at first. He didn't understand why Sonny would have done what he did in the first place. The memories of that scene were terrifying, etched into his being, his code.

It's a memory that still stretches out of his influence, even when he doesn't intend it. Everything is his code, so that awful night had lingered in it.

Why do you think Sam had that rope around his neck, afterall?

It was only a year or so into the nightmare before Sonny realized he could do something about it. After seeing many victims, trying so hard to reach out to any of them to set him free, to delete him, the servers, anything

None of that worked of course, but it gave him at least the littlest bit of hope. For a while.

Hey I’m the svirdgailov anon from a while ago, about halfway through demons, just read stavrogins confession and man this story is just incredible, you were right about thinking I’d like stavrogin. You’ve had plenty of responses about kirillov and pyotr, not sure if you’ve talked about the at tikhons chapter, maybe I should wait till I finish the story before sending this ask but I’d like to know ur opinion on the chapter itself. To me it’s the best chapter I’ve read from Dostoevsky besides the c&p epilogue so just wondering . Ty in advance

Also off topic question but have u read the eternal husband? I found that story really interesting too and I see quite literally no one talk about it, the double gets talked about more somehow, I think it’s so underrated .

Hiiii!!!! I'm so glad to read this, because Stavrogin is definitely inspired from a lot of the ideas Dostoyevsky used to explore Svidrigailov.

I have read The Eternal Husband, but it was probably ten years ago. I must reread it. I do remember really liking it.

I do think "At Tikhon's" is masterful, but since you're not finished yet I'll talk about the chapter outside of the novel and its context... when you finish the novel, do come back and ask again!

I'm not sure if you were aware of this, but the chapter was actually censored originally and not allowed to be published. See, back in the day, novels were serialized like manga chapters today in that they were published in regularly-scheduled magazines chapter by chapter. "At Tikhon's" was not allowed to be published because of the disturbing nature of its content, and so has been added to Demons as an appendix, or in some modern versions, slotted in where it was intended to be included in the novel.

I think the chapter is vital to understanding the story and to Stavrogin's character, and one that asks moral questions of not just Stavrogin and everyone who seems to care about him, but also of us as readers. It's a truly disturbing and unsettling chapter. It's triggering as hell and hard to read, but ultimately the novel is more powerful for its inclusion--it's not at all gratuitous, but it should upset readers.

However, because of its rejection, Dostoyevsky had to resort to other ways to show Stavrogin's characterization. This has led to some critics thinking the chapter is ultimately irrelevant to Stavrogin's character, but I think this is a take fast fading with time. Most modern critics regard it as essential, and I would also consider it necessary to understand his character.

Again, to go back to the "outside the novel" idea, this chapter, along with Svidrigailov's character, that of Fyodor Karamazov in The Brothers Karamazov, and Totsky in The Idiot, all have an extremely similar sin in common: basically, rotten men who sexually abuse young women, and how society responds to these crimes--or doesn't. All but Fyodor's were preteens/young teens, and Fyodor's victim was seriously mentally disabled. The reason Dostoyevsky includes this in a lot of his works is because one of his formative childhood memories is of a girl about his age arriving for help from Dostoyevsky's father, who was a doctor. The girl had been assaulted, and it clearly traumatized Dostoyesvky. There's a reason his works always touch on the question Ivan Karamazov poses right before delving into The Grand Inquisitor: "but what of the children?"

OR all the other animatronics are 100% real and present as well,and so The Vengeful Spirit may be withholding freedom from them in order to use them as pawns against William (It doesn’t matter if they like it or not because The Vengeful Spirit is the only person with a say in it- and they say NO)

The UCN really intrigues me!! And so does your au,sooooo…I’d love to hear your ideas on it!! :D

Ucn is basically a hell william has to go created by Cassidy- but Elizabeth and the crying child have also had an impact.

Cassidys the most vengeful- she really wants to see william suffer for eternity, but that comes at the cost of her own wellbeing. Old man consequences watches over all the children, and while he does not try to interfere much- he wants to save cassidy from damning herself to an eternity of misery just to watch one person suffer. Crying child is more vocal about it and actively tries to steer her towards a better path- just like she guided him in fnaf 4-

Crying child was sent into a coma after his injury from fredbear, and similarly william has been sent to a world where he now has to conquer his greatest fears involving the consequences of his actions. 

The ucn characters were initially the fnaf world characters- in my au, the fnaf world characters look like tiny wooden dolls who were crafted by elizabeth so she could have something to play with since she was very lonely at the start. It was her own little world she created for herself- but cassidy stole her dolls and turned them into beings that resemble the actual victims- at least the victims she knows of. Ucn dosent include characters cassidy didnt recognize or know about. They are very one dimensional because its not actually them- its cassidy creating henchmen who appear like williams victims to give him endless suffering

speaking of denethor and the rivendell au. i miss the days when i was working on the faramir-in-gondor scenes. emotionally it felt like dying but i kind of knew what was going on. now i am in rivendell taking and failing this history of middle earth exam. and i am so very….the next time we see denethor for real is in return of the king. now girl…how will i survive another 80k words. i miss my boy my dear darling my tortured victim of the narrative. and according to the paragraph i just wrote faramir does too but is Refusing to admit it to himself<3

im also RIDICULOUSLY torn on how i want to resolve his arc. now just between you and me. and anyone who bothers to click that read more. I DONT WANT TO KILL HIM I WANT HIM TO LIVE. GOD I WANT HIM TO LIVE. I WILL WRITE YOU A THOUSAND HAPPY ENDINGS. except its not a happy ending its a you are not allowed to die you are forced to contend with your choices you must keep living ending. because he will always be tragic no matter what. but its ALSO a you can rest now you can be at peace son of gondor you have won your war. all you sacrificed has been worth it. you have given your all when that's what duty asked you for and it has been enough. and that makes my poor heart weep.

like on one hand the idea of resolving his storyline with faramir.......the opportunity for some kind of reconciliation, some kind of understanding between them...god. delicious. i know in my heart that faramir comes home and IS the lord that denethor once dreamed of being. not playing at it...he is high and lordly and gentle and the world bends around his will and he knows exactly what to bow to and when to stand his ground and his powers are honed to a keen edge that he uses with the utmost care and. AUGH. he walks into the citadel the IMAGE of his father. it makes me feel FERAL. and how would denethor react to that. man.

BUT ON THE OTHER HAND HOW DO I END THE STORY. like. LOL. do u know what i mean. likelihood of me being able to just have a triumphant coronation and tie it all up with a bow is soooo small. the narrative contortions i would have to go through. to have denethor accept that and still be in character. Girl....no thank u <3 so we havent worked THAT out yet. like how much of the madness and despair do i want to put into the narrative. We Shall See. IM not politically savvy enough to get real into the weeds with it all so im kind of rotating just. a beautiful set of reunions with the fellowship. eowyn and faramir get engaged. boromir and faramir see all their dreams of a gondor restored come true. we skate over the political minefield and deeply navigate the beginnings of denethor and faramir's relationship in this new world. and among it all, within it all, is hope, and a new dawn. and curtain.

i got distracted but re: we are in rivendell. it IS kind of fun to think about the themes and narratives. i am pushing my Let Faramir (And Denethor) Be Numenorean + Let Numenoreans Be Weird agendas so so sooo hard and i am having the time of my life with that specifically. birds follow him around and pick up the tunes he sings. he hears the voices of the people he loves in his head. he falls into a river and after having a breakdown about it promptly decides that The River Is Testing Him And He Has Passed. he gets to rivendell and INSTANTLY knows that there is someone Very Like Him Here (its elrond. the elrond-elros-faramir connection has me FROTHING at the mouth. faramir looks at elrond and sees his father and sees every statue of elros in minas tirith and Knows that this here is the son of earendil, gil-estel, his brightest north star. elrond looks at faramir and sees his brother, his dear dead doomed brother, and every numenorean descended from him and all their sins and all their glories and yet, kind as summer, sees beauty and knowledge and a strange quiet man who carries all the weight of his country on his shoulders and yet knows him, knows the legends; perhaps the blood of numenor is not yet spent in the south)

i just think that Every Elf that meets faramir along the way is like woah...hold up. there's something up with THIS guy! men ARENT supposed to do that! not anymore anyway! galadriel is Lowkey Threatened by him. and isnt that beautiful. woman who could be queen of the earth sees god's special chosen boy and goes hang on a minute. Fuck. i think they work out their shit by the time the company leaves lothlorien but like...just thinking about how faramir lowkey blamed her for boromir's death in rotk! idk how their dynamic is exaclty gonna manifest but there's definitely some sort of similar mindreader2mindreader tension!

AND. um the idea of faramir travelling with the fellowship discovering that maybe...well. he has never wanted to be a warrior but he has been honed into a blade anyway. by his father and by necessity. and perhaps for the first time in his life...outside of gondor he does not need to be all that. he can be mithrandir's pupil without censure he can be scholarly and witty and cunning - he is all these things, in gondor. but there he has to be them, and now he can discover that yes, this is what he wants to be. and he has never let his father and the expectations of his position STOP him but there is always a weight, there is always the knowledge that your actions are disapproved of, and being away from that for a while is i just think. really good for him. see above re: he comes home the image of his father in a gentler time. keep honking im sitting in my car crying about denethor ii twenty sixth steward of gondor.jpg (<- my greatest creation PLEASE click the link lol)

ALSO IM THRILLED YOU LIKED THAT WHETSTONE LINE LOL i kind of blacked out when i typed it on the page. i think truly the crazy thing about denethor and faramir is that they SHOULD understand each other. they know so much about each other and yet are so incompetent at actually putting it to any good use towards, you know, improving their relationship. faramir is incredibly emotionally intelligent AND can read minds AND has taken so many of what he probably views as denethor's worst traits and turned them to gentler uses. (im talking about his powers but im ALSO talking about that thing he does when he encounters frodo and sam where he plays woe is me my brother is dead and i miss him sooo much to get on their good sides. yes of course he misses boromir more than anything else in the world. no he is not above using it to his advantage. and we see the SAME THING when gandalf and pippin come to minas tirith. hey isn't it crazy that both of them use boromir as a. manipulation chip. even after he's dead. hey thats kind of fucked up actually!) and denethor is…well denethor is denethor. ok im mostly messing around and thought that sentence was funny. i think he Knows most everything that goes on in faramir's head and yet Wilfully Chooses to interpret it in the worst ways because its just soo....very I Thought I Raised You Better Than That/I Honed You To Be My Blade Stop Defying Me. and despite all that the Problem is that they understand each other right up until they don't. they know how THEY feel about each other (incredible love that they can only express in the worst ways/think they're expressing only to be spurned by the other) but cannot POSSIBLY imagine that the other feels the same way.

ive gone on for SO SO LONG ALREADY LOL but. what do i have to say about denethor and thorongil. not enough and too much all at once. they're so toxic and awful for each other they're MADE for each other they're beautiful narrative parallels they're homoerotic besties they're bitter rivals they're pawns in a proxy war they're locked at all times in a psychic psychosexual situationship. um the enemy of my enemy is kissing me with tongue. idk i have more symbolism and actual analysis especially of the denethor-ecthelion-thorongil Issue. but we are just getting into it. so i will start with the situations bc i have two angles for this. on one hand i do think it is very fun if they constantly homoerotically circle each other for years and years and never do a THING about it. like...this is a stitching up wounds wiping blood off each others faces battle couple/situationship situation that THEN turns into a ridiculously high functioning political rival partnership bent together over books long into the night catching each others eye in council meetings using their very real disdain for each other for Manipulation Purposes and getting uh. SO hot over it. like.....Do You Know What I Mean. just. truly unresolved sexual tension THROUGH THE ROOF. it DELIGHTS me. they are always putting themselves in situations. and then NOT making out about it. AND THEY CAN READ EACH OTHERS MINDS!! THE WHOLE TIME!! SO THEY KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH THEY WANT EACH OTHER AND STILL ARENT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!! like thats just really good. but on the other hand.......the idea of just an absolutely terrible beautiful toxic rivals with benefits codependent situationship. i hate you so much and you know what we DO need to make out about it. every time they fuck it is a power play and they are having SO much fun with it. they will both start arguments with each other (AND IN PUBLIC TOO) just so they can fight and make up. the mind reading...Oh You Know What I Mean. taylor swift voice we had this big white city all to ourselves we blocked the noise with the sound of i need you and for the first time i had something to lose! logically thorongil is not yet in his grubby ranger era but the idea of him being dirt smeared all the time and hanging out with prim proper polished denethor. in the fic (which does exist and DOES follow the second model) theres a scene where hes just chilling with his head in denethor's lap and denethor is actually rather delighted and devoting ALL of his copious braincells to pretending not to be.
